Creston woman elected to state party post

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Third Congressional District Democratic Party Convention was held in Council Bluffs in April and at that convention eight members, four men and four women, were elected to sit on the Iowa Democratic Party’s governing body, the State Central Committee (SCC).

Marcia Fulton of Creston was elected to serve a two-year term. These eight members, along with elected representatives from the other three congressional districts, and representative constituency chairpersons work with the IDP Chairman Scott Brennan, Democratic National Committee members, and the IDP staff to carry on the work of the party.

At the first meeting in Anita after the convention, district officers were elected. Fulton was re-elected vice chairwoman.

Meetings are held quarterly. The primary purpose of the Third Congressional Committee is to elect Democratic members of Congress and assist the election of legislators for districts which cross county lines. Although these meetings are open to the public, voting members are selected at the precinct level. Those interested in becoming involved may contact their local county chairperson. Union County chairperson is Monica McCarthy.
