Reunion

Class of 1954

Thirteen members of the Creston High School class of 1954 held their 60th class reunion during the Creston Fourth of July festivities. The class had a banquet at the A&G Steakhouse and Lounge during the evening of July 3 followed by breakfast at The Windrow on the Fourth prior to the parade.

The reunion activities included time for renewals before and after the banquet.

A memorial service was held for the 36 deceased classmates. Don Duskin was the master of ceremonies. A full day of activities were available after the parade concluding with fireworks at McKinley Lake.

Organizers of the 60th reunion were Regina Day, Don Duskin, Shirley Ray and Betty Wallace, all of Creston.

Class attendees were Paul Breakenridge from Omaha, Neb.; George Chapman, from Chariton; Don Duskin, Creston; Regina (Hawks) Day, Creston; Bill Ide, Springfield, Ill.; Jerry Ritter, Council Bluffs; Shirley (Shatter) Ray, Kent; Marilyn (Wager) Blazek, Prescott; Dean Wallace, Creston; Marilyn (Werner) Kollmorgen, Ankeny; Glendon Lyle Bevans, Paris, Texas; Robert Madison, Davis City and Saarasota, Fla.; Janice Skiles from Columbia, Mo. Other guests were Betty Wallace, Carolyn Duskin, Robert Day, from Creston; Mary Chapman from Chariton; Roberta Ide from Springfield, Ill.; Mary Jo Breakenridge from Omaha, Neb.; Carol Ann Bevans from Paris, Texs: Ken Lewis from Columbia, Mo.; Robert Kollmorgen from Ankeny; and Ed Blazek from Prescott.

Cole Family Reunion

Second and third generation descendants of Schuyler Colfax and Sarah Ann Cole gathered for a family reunion July 5 at the Afton Methodist Church fellowship hall.

Thirty-four cousins and guests from Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Texas and Virginia, as well as Iowa, enjoyed a potluck brunch, picture-taking and reminiscing via a slide show of previous reunions.

A memory walk through Greenlawn Cemetery concluded the afternoon.

Union County 4-H Horse and Riders Club

Union County 4-H Horse and Riders Club will have a 50 year reunion July 18-20. John and Ruby Stephens and Earl and Thelma Dibel were the first leaders and organizers. All past and present Horse and Riders members are invited, along with the parents, other helpers and 4-H friends.

Ruby Stephens, Jack and Mona Quee and other leaders throughout the 50 years will be there to visit with people.

Schedule includes:

• 5 to 9 p.m. July 18, reunion, building west of the 4-H exhibit building on the south edge of Union County Fairgrounds. There will be food, slide show and a chance to tell a favorite 4-H memory and chat with other 4-H members.

• 9 a.m. July 19, Open Union County Horse Show. There will be classes for alumni Horse and Riders members. If you cannot bring your own horse, you may borrow one. This is another opportunity to see and chat with old friends.

• 6 p.m. July 20, Union County Fair parade. Horse and Riders Club will meet at the fairgrounds. Bring your horse to ride, or ride in the wagon driven by Dan Stephens.
