Angela Ruby, RN, recognized at Adair County Health System

GREENFIELD — Adair County Health System awarded the 2014 DAISY award to Angela Ruby, RN. This award is given to recognize extraordinary nurses. The DAISY award is sponsored by Mercy Health Network of Central Iowa.

This award was founded in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, thus giving name to the award “Diseases Attacking the Immune System” — DAISY.

According to Adair County Health System, Ruby has practiced in a variety of patient care settings over the years and the medical/surgical bedside is where she shines her brightest. She makes her patients and families feel like they are the only ones around and gives them her full attention. She explains to patients and families what she will be doing and how it will benefit the patient. She listens for their concerns and answers questions promptly. She eases the fear in patient’s eyes with her kind words and soft touch.

Ruby carries out provider orders in a timely fashion. She displays leadership qualities as a charge nurse, delegating when necessary and always checking back in with staff to see if they need anything. She is a team player and is always helping others. She is meticulous at providing care on time and goes the extra mile to make sure that happens. She volunteers for projects, trains new staff and provides extra encouragement at department meetings when staff may seem a little overwhelmed.

A surprise celebration for staff and family was held April 11 at Adair County Memorial Hospital. Ruby will be recognized in June at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
