Larry Delaney, 79, of Creston died April 19, 2014, at HCI Care Services in Creston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. No public viewing will be held. Open visitation will be 2 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with family present 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Larry Lee Delaney, son of Violet Wanda (Moomey) and James Lee Delaney, was born Aug. 8, 1934, in Creston.

Larry graduated from Creston High School in 1952.

He served in the United States Navy Reserves for eight years, four of those years were active duty.

Larry began working with the Iowa Department of Transportation in 1952.

On May 23, 1953, Larry married Pauletta Mae Malone in Creston. They made their home in Creston.

Larry continued with the Iowa Department of Transportation as a construction project supervisor. He won awards and taught classes on road construction. He retired in 1997. He worked for the DOT for two summers. Then Larry worked for Southern Iowa Trolley for three years and Union County for two summers, supervising fiber optic projects.

Larry was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Larry is survived by his wife Pauletta of Creston; daughters, Shannon (husband Bill) Hammons of Creston and Kelsey (husband Brent) Cain of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Hammons, Clint (Randi) Hammons, Danielle (Derek) Kleve, Cami (Nathan) Page, Dakota Delaney and Nicole and Blake Cain; great-grandchildren, Stone, Brandon and Conner Hammons, Gavin and Jaxton Page, Alice and Xander Hammons and Evan Kleve; and brother Carroll (wife Cathy) Delaney of St. Charles, Mo.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin, granddaughter Kayla in infancy and brother Richard Delaney.
