Jerry Scherer, 87, of Shannon City, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at her home in Shannon City.

Memorial services were 10 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highway 34 and 25 in Creston. Pastor Lila Greene will officiate. Burial will be private at a later date. No public viewing will be held. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service Monday at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials can be directed to the family. Jeraldine Winifred Scherer, daughter of Emmett William “Boxer” Woosley and Marie Rosa (Hoffman) Woosley, was born Sept. 5, 1926 in Ringgold County, Iowa. Jerry grew up on a farm near Shannon City with four sisters, Freda, Melba, Joan and Shirley. Jerry went to school in Shannon City and then went on to college in Creston. After college, she began teaching grade school at Arispe, Iowa.

On January 25, 1947, Jerry married Kenneth Scherer in Osceola. They first lived in Shannon City, where Jerry taught until 1951. In 1956, Kenny and Jerry purchased their home west of Shannon City, where they raised their four children and began their life of farming. Jerry faithfully attended the United Methodist Church until it closed and then helped keep the doors open at the Community Church of Shannon City. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed attending Bible study groups and the local Diet Club.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth Scherer of Shannon City; her four children, Dena (Tom) Jackson of Creston, son, Fred (Pam) Scherer of Creston, son, Gene Scherer of Shannon City and daughter, Leslie (Arthur) Pritchard of Osceola; seven grandchildren, Troy (Kim) Jackson, Jennifer (Danny) Bakos, Tiffany Jackson and Jesse (Valerie) White, Stephanie (Brandon) Scherer, Mathew (Jennifer) Scherer and Shelby (Rich) Weis; 16 great-grandchildren, Braden Zimmerline, Connor and Dillon Jackson, Daniel and Tatum Bakos, Whisper Leeps, Bevin Scherer, Michael, Jordan, Haydon and Landon Scherer, McKenna Thatcher, Riley Haines and Pailsey Eagan, Christian and Kailyn White; three sisters, Melba Akers of Creston, Joan (Bill) Goodale of Diagonal and Shirley (Richard) Ide of Shannon City.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Freda (Leroy) Tinker and a brother-in-law, Lester Akers.
