Regarding factory hog farm in Union County

From Mike Miller

Prescott

This letter concerns the Union County Supervisors meeting that was held Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. about the permitting of a factory hog farm southeast of Orient.

On April 8, the Adair County Board of Supervisors voted to reject the recommendation to the DNR for the permit for the expansion of Brady Geidel’s hog factory to 4,960 hogs that would produce 1,267,280 gallons of toxic liquid manure annually.

The taxes on this operation would be minimal, a couple of acres of ag ground?

It will adversely effect the property of neighbors and degrade roads, bridges and water quality which will end up in Green Valley Reservoir and have to be treated by the water treatment plant and supplied to Creston customers and SIRWA. Basically subsidized and paid for by water use customers and taxpayers.

The Adair County Board of Supervisors refused to allow public testimony, but allowed comments in writing. I don’t know what Union County will allow. We need to fill their mailboxes with public comments and have citizens and taxpayers attend the meeting.

This is our tax money, quality of life and property values at stake.
