Lois Hewitt, 86, of Clive, formerly of Lenox, died April 6, 2014, at her home in Clive.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, at the United Methodist Church in Lenox. Interment will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox.  Memorials may be given in Lois' name. Lois Laurena Brown, daughter of Margaret (Wallace) and Josiah Norman Brown, was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Corning.

Lois grew up in Corning, Jefferson and Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1945.

After graduation, Lois worked as secretary for the superintendent of schools from 1945 to 1949 at the administration office of Creston High School.

On March 20, 1949, Lois married James Hewitt in Creston. The couple lived in Ringgold County for a year, then moved to Lenox and farmed north of town.

In addition to her work on the farm, Lois also worked for National Farmers Organization (NFO) in Corning from 1968 to 1976, and then had her own in-home business of Hewitt Insurance Claims.

Together the couple farmed for more than 55 years before moving to Creston. They resided at Summit House.

Lois was a long-time, active member of Lenox United Methodist Church, where she served a Sunday school teacher. Lois also served as a Cub Scout leader and Den Mother for her sons’ packs.

Lois is survived by her sons, David James (wife Pamela) Hewitt of Omaha, Neb., Daniel Norman (wife Jill) Hewitt of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Douglas Ray (wife Lisa) Hewitt of Urbandale; sister Evelyn (husband Carroll) Konecne of Creston; grandchildren, Stacey Ganda of Buford, Ga., Leslie (husband Aaron) Fennell of O’Neill, Neb., Tara Hewitt of Lone Tree, Colo., Scott Hewitt of Omaha, Neb., Joseph Hewitt of Phoenix, Ariz., Carolyn (husband John) (Hewitt) Deegan of Glendale, Ariz., Danielle Hewitt of Bloomington, Minn., and Mackenzie Hewitt of Urbandale; great-grandchildren, Rasheed and Baleke Ganda of Buford, Ga., and Alivia and Marquis Fennell of O’Neill, Neb.; half-brother Timothy Brown of Creston; stepmother Dorothy Brown of Creston; stepsister Penny McNeer of Springfield, Ore.; many other family members and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
