Alpha Delta Kappa

Iowa Alpha Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa met March 10 at the home of Pam Dunham.  Co-hostesses were Marcia Riley, Peggy Tripp and Becky Riley. Eleven members were present.  Chaplain Kiley Sherwood read a note to parents from a 1956 report card belonging to her father.

President Danette Lesan conducted the business meeting.  In the absence of the secretary, Linda Huffman read the minutes from the February meeting. Lois Houghtaling gave the treasurer’s report.

The national convention will be July 25-27 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Carolyn Biere reported the chapter volunteered a total of 1,108 hours and donated $2,411 in 2013.  It was decided to donate $50 to the Freedom Quilt project.

Applications for book scholarships to students majoring in education have been sent to high schools.

Officers for 2014-16 were elected. President Kiley Sherwood, Vice President Marilyn Bohnker, Secretary Pam Dunham, Treasurer Lois Houghtaling, Historian Tina Morrison and Chaplain Lori Mann.

Guest speaker Judy Hopkins shared photos and stories of her barn quilt art and signage projects.

The next meeting will be April 14 at She-Nae’s, 311 W. Montgomery St. Dinner and meeting will follow at the Windrow.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met March 12.

Canasta winners were Maxine May, first; Wanda Nash, second; and Joan Chubick, third.

Nash won the door prize.

Mary Kline was hostess for cards and chatter Wednesday.

Connie Bailey will be hostess for cards and chatter March 26.

Kent Dinner Club

Kent Dinner Club met March 13 at Creston Family Restaurant with seven attending.

The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. April 10 at Creston Family Restaurant.

Delta Kappa Gamma

Eleven members attended the March 10 meeting of Pi Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma International at The Windrow. Kim Riley, Joan Lienneman, and Sherri Nissen gave an informational presentation on ALICE training, which they all participated in the previous week.

President Joan Lienneman called the meeting to order.

M/S/C by Jane Briley and Jody Emerson to approve the November minutes as read.

The treasurer’s report was given by Riley; M/S/C by Ann Simmons and Sandy Harris to approve the treasurer’s report as presented.

A thank you was read from member Charlotte Roberts for the gift during her surgery.

Old Business:

The state president’s visit will be Oct. 6 with Pi Chapter deciding on a location.

The 2014 state convention will be held June 13-15 in Davenport. Early registration is due by April 20 and regular registration is April 25.

New Business:

The international conference will be July 28-Aug. 1 in Indianapolis, Ind.

M/S/C by Briley and Harris to give Adams County Extension $10 toward trophies for the county fair.

Iowa Reading Association is presenting a conference titled, “Literacy is All Write” June 24-25 in Ames.

M/S/C by Emerson and Joyce Abbott to offer a $150 scholarship to a male or female from Adams or Union county going into education.

Information was presented for anyone interested in being a host family and various chapter awards to apply for.

M/S/C by Charlette Roberts and Emerson to pay registration cost for Lienneman and Harris to attend the state conference.

The next meeting will be held April 14 in Greenfield with the program by Bubba Sorenson, and the meal will be at the Olive Branch.
